Caroline Schaumann is a Professor of German Studies at Emory University, with affiliations in Jewish Studies, Film Studies, Environmental Sciences, and the Sustainability Minor. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, and previously taught at Middlebury College. Her research examines environmental humanities, the Anthropocene, and cultural histories of exploration.
Research interests include:
- Environmental Humanities and ecocriticism
- 19th-century Alpine exploration narratives
- German cultural history and cinema
- Transnational representations of nature
Her publications focus on mountain cinema, extinction studies, and ecological narratives in German literature. Recent work analyzes contemporary adaptations of Bergfilm traditions and environmental crises in dystopian fiction.
