Dr. Caroline Blinder is Reader in American Literature and Visual Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London. She holds a PhD from King's College London (1995), MA from Northwestern University (1990), and BA from Tufts University (1988). Her research examines intersections between photography, literature, and cultural representation in 20th-21st century American art.
Research explores documentary photography's role in democratizing art, with focus on:
- Phototextual dynamics in modernist collaborations
- Landscape photography's political dimensions
- Vernacular aesthetics in popular culture
- Ecological consciousness in visual narratives
Awarded Terra Foundation Fellowship (2019) and Paul Mellon Fellowship (2022) for archival research on Robert Frank and American visual culture. Supervises doctoral projects on documentary aesthetics, postcolonial representation, and transnational modernism.
