Manchester Metropolitan UniversityAbout
Caroline Abbott is a Research Fellow in the Department of Life Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and has 25+ years of research experience in diabetic lower limb complications.
Her research focuses on diabetic foot ulcer prevention through biomechanical interventions and early detection technologies, including: 1) Pressure-modifying insole systems for high-risk patients, 2) Thermographic monitoring devices, and 3) Computer vision applications for ulcer detection. She investigates ethnic variations in diabetic neuropathy and foot complications.
Abbott leads clinical trials of intelligent insole technologies that reduce ulcer recurrence through pressure feedback, with recent work exploring remote thermovisual monitoring systems. Her research appears in leading diabetes and biomechanics journals.
Honors include the Paul Wilson Brand Award and Quality in Care Diabetes commendation. She developed the FootSnap mobile application for standardized foot imaging and has contributed to BBC programming on diabetic technologies.
