Associate Professor Carol Warren chairs Asian Studies at Murdoch University, examining social/environmental change in Indonesia and Malaysia. Her ARC-funded research investigates land tenure, cultural heritage, and social protection policy, with publications including Adat and Dinas: Balinese Communities in the Indonesian State and co-edited volumes on Southeast Asian environmental politics. Fieldwork-based studies address customary law transformations, coastal resource conflicts, and development sustainability.
Recent publications analyze agrarian reform impacts on social assistance, fisheries governance conflicts, and gender initiatives in Indonesian small-scale fisheries. Research themes include community responses to environmental pressures, political ecology of resource management, and conservation program governance. As Fellow of the Indo-Pacific Research Centre, she coordinates international collaborations on sustainable development challenges.
