Dr. Carmela Ricciardelli is a Senior Research Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Adelaide's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She obtained her Ph.D. from Flinders University and completed postdoctoral training at Flinders Medical Centre and Hanson Institute. Her cancer biology research focuses on ovarian cancer metastasis, chemotherapy resistance, and biomarker discovery.
She pioneered research on versican's role in cancer spread and currently investigates tumor microenvironment interactions, extracellular vesicles, and novel therapies like CAR-T cells targeting GPC1 and annexin A2. Her lab utilizes proteomics, 3D models, and patient-derived xenografts.
She received the Tall Poppy Award (2005), Hilda Farmer Fellowship (2007), and Lin Huddleston Ovarian Cancer Research Fellowship (2016-2020). Recent publications emphasize tumor-stroma crosstalk, extracellular matrix remodeling, and precision immunotherapy approaches.
