Carmel Fleming

Dr Carmel Fleming is a mental health professional and Lecturer at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, University of Queensland. She holds a conjoint role with Queensland Health and serves as a senior social worker at the Queensland Eating Disorder Service (QuEDS), where she provides clinical education, supervision, and service development across Queensland. Her work focuses on family-based interventions and low-intensity therapies for eating disorders.

Fleming’s research spans three decades, emphasizing family inclusion in eating disorder treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and health service evaluation. Her 2022 study explored family participation in outpatient settings, while her 2017 work assessed CBT-E efficacy. Earlier studies (1994–1996) pioneered self-help models for bulimia nervosa. Publications highlight her expertise in family systems, behavioral interventions, and mental health service delivery.

Fleming completed her PhD on family support for adults with eating disorders and maintains a special interest in clinician supervision. She previously led QuEDS’s statewide education program for ten years. Notably, she is available for research supervision, as evidenced by her advisory role in a 2025 PhD project.
