Carlos Meza

Prof. Dr. Carlos Meza is an academic and researcher specializing in sustainable energy systems, particularly photovoltaic technologies and energy efficiency. He holds the position of Visiting Professor at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany and concurrently serves as an Associate Professor at the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. His research focuses on control systems, power electronics, and the integration of renewable energy into smart grids.

• Education: Ph.D. in Advanced Automation and Robotics, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2008), M.Eng. in Embedded Systems from Università della Svizzera Italiana (2003), and B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from Costa Rica TEC (2001).
• Professional Experience: Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at ICTP (2012–2015), consultant for APRE, Dole Fruits, and Campbell Scientific, and former President of the Costa Rican Solar Energy Association (2011–2020).

His research interests include distributed detection algorithms for photovoltaic arrays, fault management systems, and grid integration strategies for renewable energy. He has led initiatives like the Latin American Network of Open Source Tools for Control Systems (HeDiSC) and contributed to the design of agrivoltaic systems in Chile.

Key achievements include over 50 peer-reviewed publications, leadership in Ibero-American networks on sustainable cities and microgrids, and active roles in IEEE and professional engineering bodies in Costa Rica.
