About
Professor Carlos Lobo holds a Professorship and serves as Director of Internationalisation at the University of Southampton's Department of Mathematics. His research focuses on many-body quantum physics, particularly ultracold matter, encompassing superfluidity, superconductivity, and topological phases in condensed matter systems. He has conducted postdoctoral research across institutions including Paris, Amsterdam, Trento, Nottingham, and Cambridge (as an EPSRC Advanced Fellow) before joining Southampton in 2006 as a Lecturer, advancing to his current rank. He teaches modules in physics, mathematics, and finance, including Light and Waves, Integral Transforms, and Mathematical Finance, while supervising PhD students in Mathematical Sciences. His work is supported by EPSRC grants, notably 'Asymmetric Fermi Superfluids' and 'Few-Body Phenomena in a Degenerate Fermi Gas'.
Research interests span foundational topics like retrocausality in quantum mechanics and experimental applications of ultracold atoms. Lobo's contributions bridge theoretical frameworks with experimental cold atom platforms, addressing conceptual questions in quantum liquids and molecular physics intersections. His research has produced impactful publications in journals like Physical Review A, Europhysics Letters, and SciPost Physics.
