Carlos E. Estraño

Carlos E. Estraño is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis. He joined the department in 2003 and specializes in molecular mechanisms of parasitic infections, particularly focusing on Giardia lamblia and Plasmodium falciparum.

• Educated with a B.S. in Cellular Biology from Universidad Central of Venezuela and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
• Completed postdoctoral work at Yale University and Northwestern University.

His research explores protein trafficking in parasites, mitosomal import systems, and host-parasite interactions in giardiasis. He teaches advanced courses in molecular biology of parasites, protein sorting, and virology.
