Carlos Caldas is Professor and holder of the Gerard A. Rohlich Regents Professorship in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin's Cockrell School of Engineering, Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003), M.C.E. from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1990), and B.Sc. from Universidade Federal do Ceará (1988).
His research focuses on information technologies for construction project management, including blockchain applications, data analytics for waste prediction, cost normalization frameworks, and productivity improvement. Recent work examines cross-functional collaboration barriers, industrial scaffolding safety, and maintenance optimization in petrochemical facilities.
