Carlos Arreche

Carlos Arreche is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Texas at Dallas. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the City University of New York (2014), an M.Phil. from the same institution (2012), an M.A.St. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Cambridge (2009), and an A.B. in Mathematics from Princeton University (2008). His research focuses on Differential Algebraic Geometry, Symbolic Computation, and Galois Theories, particularly in the context of differential and difference equations.

He has been recognized with the 2021 Outstanding Teaching Award (School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics) and the 2014 ISSAC Distinguished Student Author Award (ACM). His work includes NSF-funded research on algorithms for discovering functional relations in solutions of equations, leveraging symmetry properties encoded in Galois groups. Arreche co-organizes the Algebra and Combinatorics Seminar at UT Dallas and has held postdoctoral positions at the Fields Institute (2015) and North Carolina State University (2014–2017).

His research interests span complex reflection groups, differential Galois theory, and algorithmic methods in symbolic computation. Key contributions include studies on discrete residues, normal reflection subgroups, and the application of Galois theory to differential transcendence criteria for special functions.
