About
Carlo MERCURI is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. His scientific disciplinary sector is MATH-03/A Mathematical Analysis. He is based at the former Mathematics campus, with office located at Via Campi 213/b - FIM.
Professor MERCURI's research interests span across several areas of mathematical analysis, with particular focus on:
- Nonlinear partial differential equations
- Variational methods
- Schrödinger-Poisson systems
- p-Laplacian problems
- Functional analysis
- Fourier analysis
His recent research has produced significant contributions to the understanding of groundstate solutions, symmetry properties, and existence results for various nonlinear PDE systems. His work often combines analytical techniques with geometric insights to tackle challenging problems in mathematical physics and analysis, particularly focusing on variational methods for Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater equations, existence and uniqueness theorems, and critical exponent problems for p-Laplacian operators.
Professor MERCURI teaches several courses for the 2025/2026 academic year:
- Mathematical Analysis II for Computer Science students
- Mathematical Analysis II for Computer Engineering students
- Fourier Analysis for Mathematics Master's students (Didactics, history and foundations of mathematics path)
- Higher Analysis for Mathematics Master's students (both General and Data Science paths)
His teaching focuses on differential calculus for functions of multiple variables, ordinary and partial differential equations, functional analysis, and Fourier analysis, with emphasis on theoretical foundations and problem-solving applications.
Professor MERCURI holds office hours by appointment, preferably on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 pm at the Via Campi campus.
