Dr. Carla Finesilver is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education and Inclusion at King's College London, affiliated with the School of Education, Communication & Society. Her work focuses on inclusive mathematics education, special educational needs (SEN), and disability inclusion. She holds a PhD from the Institute of Education, specializing in low-attaining students' representational strategies, and prior experience as a secondary school mathematics teacher in London, including leadership at a specialist school for students with Specific Learning Difficulties.
Her research employs qualitative methods, including microgenetic analysis and multimodal data, to explore inclusive pedagogies, creative mathematics teaching, and anti-ableism in education. She actively contributes to national guidance on dyscalculia and participates in EDI committees. Current projects include neuroinclusive secondary STEM classrooms and accessibility in computing education for visually impaired children.
Teaching spans PhD to PGCE modules, including social justice in education, research methods, and STEM pedagogy. Completed doctoral students have addressed topics like SEN adaptations in Saudi schools and mathematics anxiety in students with mental health challenges.
