Carl Zhang

Dr. Chunlong (Carl) Zhang is a Professor of Environmental Science and Environmental Chemistry at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, where he serves as Program Director for the Environmental Science Program. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Louisiana State University, an M.S. in Environmental Chemistry from Zhejiang University, and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Zhejiang University, with postdoctoral training at Rice University.

Dr. Zhang's research focuses on the fate, transport, and remediation of legacy and emerging contaminants, including endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and heavy metals. His work bridges environmental sampling, chemical analysis, and green remediation strategies, with a strong emphasis on in vitro/in silico studies for chemical safety and method development for trace contaminant detection.

His publications highlight trends in environmental toxicology, bioremediation, and analytical chemistry, particularly studies on DDT exposure risks, surfactant-enhanced contaminant removal, and endocrine disruptor detection. These works span collaborations with institutions across China, Italy, and the U.S.
