Carl Linstrum is a full-time Professor of Foundation Studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta since 2010. He holds an M.F.A. in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University, a B.A. in Printmaking from the University of South Florida, and an A.A. in Art from Santa Fe College. His career spans over three decades in art education, curation, and gallery management. Linstrum’s research interests focus on foundational art education, contemporary art practices, mixed media, and gallery curation, with exhibitions exploring themes like nature, memory, and urban art contexts.
Notable awards include residencies at Le CouVent (France, 2014) and the Hambidge Center (GA, 2012), alongside a SCAD Presidential Fellowship and a Visiting Artist Grant (2004). His publications and exhibitions reflect a commitment to analyzing art in both commercial and academic spheres, with works featured in prominent journals like ArtsATL and Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Linstrum has held leadership roles in SCAD’s Sustainability Practices Council and Academic Integrity Council. He co-founded the Aliya Gallery (1992–2008) and has advised art-related ventures through Canvas Art Consultants. His professional service includes roles in the Atlanta Gallery Association and Virginia Highland Gallery Association, emphasizing community art engagement.
