Carl Fictorie

Carl Fictorie is a Professor of Chemistry at Dordt University, where he has served since 1995. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from the University of Minnesota (1997) and a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics from Dordt University (1990). His academic work spans materials chemistry, chemical education, and philosophy of chemistry, with a focus on integrating Christian principles into scientific inquiry. He has presented at the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (2010), reviewed books for academic journals, and edited a collection of essays on the intersection of science and faith.

At Dordt, Fictorie teaches foundational courses such as General Chemistry (Chem 111), Chemical Analysis (Chem 212), Environmental Chemistry (Chem/Envr 251), Inorganic Chemistry (Chem 271), Physical Chemistry (Chem 231), Instrumental Analysis (Chem 312), Quantum Chemistry (Chem 333), and Perspectives in Physical Science (Chem/Phys 305). His research includes the preparation and analysis of biomass-based catalysts for biodiesel synthesis and contributions to the philosophy of chemistry through publications and reviews.
