About
Dr. Cara Haney is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on the genetic and metabolic factors regulating host-associated microbial communities, using the plant root microbiome (rhizosphere) as a model system. The Haney lab is affiliated with the Biodiversity Research Centre and investigates how microbes benefit plant health through pathogen protection, nutrient availability, and symbiotic relationships with model bacteria like Bacillus and Pseudomonas.
Research interests include comparative genomics, microbial evolution, and plant-microbe interactions. Methodologies involve genetic/molecular approaches, high-throughput assays, and next-generation sequencing. Current projects aim to identify plant and bacterial genes shaping microbiome assembly and their effects on plant development.
No specific articles or awards are listed here, though the lab’s work aligns with broader themes in microbial ecology and plant science. Contact: cara.haney@msl.ubc.ca or visit the lab’s website.
