Candis Haak

Candis Haak is an Associate Professor in the History Department at SUNY Oswego, serving as Director of the Digital Humanities Minor and Internship Coordinator. Her research focuses on Early Medieval to Early Modern South Asia, sacred spaces, religious materiality, and deathways. She teaches courses on South Asian civilizations and world history, integrating digital tools like GIS to explore historical spatial literacy.

Her work includes collaborations such as the 'Death, Data, and Local Cemeteries' project with the Oswego Town Historical Society. She has received prestigious awards including the Mellon Sawyer Seminar Fellowship (2014-2016) and the General Motors Women in Science Award (2012).

Teaching innovations include the HIS335 South Asian Civilizations and HIS102 World History of the 20th Century courses. She emphasizes experiential learning through internships and digital humanities projects.
