Candice M. Lowe Swift is an Associate Professor of Anthropology, Africana Studies, and International Studies at Vassar College since 2004. She specializes in diaspora networks, cultural heritage, and DEIB initiatives in higher education. Her fieldwork in Mauritius contributed to UNESCO's inscription of Le Morne Brabant Mountain as a World Heritage site. She co-founded and directed the Summer Immersion in the Liberal Arts program, a bridge program for marginalized students, and led Vassar's Engaged Pluralism Initiative (EPI) from 2017-2020.
Education: BA, Fisk University; PhD, Indiana University-Bloomington. Current roles include board membership with Omprakash Edge and the Vassar Haiti Project. Recent work focuses on future visions of inclusive education through the 'Beyond Inclusion and Belonging' project funded by AALAC. Teaching specialties include Indian Ocean studies, food anthropology, and community-based research methods. Awards include the AALAC grant and Mellon Foundation support for equity initiatives.
