Candace Howes is the Barbara Hogate Ferrin '43 Professor of Economics at Connecticut College, where she has been a faculty member since 1995. Her research focuses on labor economics with particular emphasis on low-wage workers and care work in long-term care settings.
Her educational background includes a B.A. in Middle East Languages and Literature from Barnard College and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Howes specializes in labor economics examining the impact of job quality on care quality in institutional and home-based long-term-care settings, with significant contributions to understanding workforce challenges in home care provision. Her earlier research analyzed U.S. manufacturing competitiveness and its effects on workers, including Japanese auto industry impacts.
