Candace Blayney

Dr. Candace Blayney is a tenured Associate Professor in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Mount Saint Vincent University, where she has served since 2001. She holds a Ph.D. from Northcentral University, an MBA from Athabasca University, and undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Education. Her professional credentials include Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA). Prior to academia, she worked for 10 years as Regional Director of Human Resources and Training Director at Holiday Inns of Canada, alongside teaching roles in community colleges across Canada and Australia.

Her research focuses on gender disparities in hotel management careers, leadership strategies, and crisis management. Notable works include studies on gender perceptions in career advancement, hotel performance linked to managerial competencies, and labor shortages in the Halifax accommodations sector. She has published extensively in journals such as the International Journal of Human Resource Studies and Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality & Tourism, and her work has earned awards including the Outstanding Research Award from the Global Conference on Business and Finance.

Dr. Blayney teaches courses in hospitality management, marketing, and human resources, including THMT 4421 Special Topics in Tourism and BUSI 3313 Human Resource Management. She has led projects funded by HRSD Canada, focusing on North American and EU mobility in higher education. Her professional affiliations include the Hotel Association of Nova Scotia and the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council.
