Can Cemgil

Can Cemgil is an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Bilgi University's Department of International Relations, specializing in international historical sociology, international theory, and Middle Eastern geopolitics. He holds a PhD from the University of Sussex (2015) and teaches courses on International Relations and International Political Economy.

His research focuses on the dialectical relationship between domestic and international politics, with particular attention to Turkish foreign policy, democratic confederalism in Syria, and critiques of capitalist international order. Publications span journals like Philosophy & Social Criticism and Globalizations.

Recent articles (2021-2025) analyze Turkey’s militarized foreign policy, the Kurdish question, and intersections of capitalism and democracy. Earlier works (2014-2016) explored dialectical methods in IR and the Rojava revolution as an alternative geopolitical model.
