Camiel Beukeboom

Camiel Beukeboom is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Network Institute, and the Communication Choices, Content and Consequences (CCCC) research group. He holds a PhD in Social Psychology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2003) and has taught courses on Interpersonal Communication, Diversity, and MA thesis supervision.

His research focuses on language's role in stereotype maintenance, linguistic bias, irony, and social media communication. Notable projects include analyzing biased language use and detecting age discrimination in job texts. He has received awards such as the Best Faculty Paper award in Public Relations (2016) and multiple top paper awards from the International Communication Association.

Beukeboom’s work spans 70+ publications, emphasizing experimental methods and automated content analysis. He actively engages in media discussions, such as his podcast on linguistic bias and prejudice. His teaching includes courses like 'Introduction to Communication Science' and 'Science for Impact.'
