About
Dr. Calvin Lui is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD (2003) and MS (1993) from Stanford University, and a BS (1991) from Rose-Hulman. His expertise spans aeroacoustics, compressible turbulence, parallel computing, and shock noise generation. Prior to academia, he worked at Boeing in noise engineering. He advises the Design-Build-Fly team, which competes in international aircraft design competitions.
Research focuses on compressible mixing, shock noise generation, and optimization methods. Teaching interests include fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics. He received the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching (1995). Recent work includes studies on supersonic jet noise and numerical methods for aeroacoustics, presented at institutions like the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese University of Hong Kong.
