C. Anton Rytting

Dr. C. Anton Rytting holds roles as an Adjunct Lecturer in the College of Information Science (Maryland’s iSchool) and Associate Research Scientist at the University of Maryland, College Park’s Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS). He also affiliates with the Linguistics Department and Computer Science Department. His research focuses on computational linguistics, social media analysis, and under-resourced languages, with emphasis on NLP applications for dialectal transcription, personality trait detection, and emotion analysis.

Education: Ph.D. in Linguistics, The Ohio State University; B.A. in Linguistics (summa cum laude), Brigham Young University.

Key projects include developing the DYM error-tolerant search toolkit, leading the IARPA Babel program’s evaluation team, and creating Arabic Data Science Toolkit APIs. Current work explores emotional content’s role in social media virality under a Minerva Research Initiative grant.

Recent research spans emotion annotation frameworks, cross-lingual personality detection (e.g., Russian and Polish), and fake news network analysis. Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams addressing computational social science challenges.
