Byron MacDougall is an Assistant Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design in the Department of Literary Arts and Studies. He has previously taught at Brown University, the University of California Davis, and Salve Regina University, and held research fellowships at Dumbarton Oaks, the University of Vienna, Princeton University, and the University of Southern Denmark.
His research focuses on Greek literary, philosophical, and religious culture during Late Antiquity and Byzantium, with a particular emphasis on ancient and Byzantine Greek literature and its modern reception. He has authored Philosophy at the Festival: The Festal Orations of Gregory of Nazianzus and the Classical Tradition (Brill, 2022) and published in journals such as Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Studies, American Journal of Philology, and Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies.
