Buffy Lockette

Buffy Lockette is an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Communication at Jacksonville State University’s College of Business and Industry. She has over 20 years of experience in public relations, strategic communications, and media relations, serving in leadership roles at multiple institutions.

Education:

• M.L.A. in Communication and Gender Studies, Auburn University at Montgomery
• B.A. in Integrated Studies with a focus on Communication, Jacksonville State University
• B.A. in Women and Gender Studies, University of Florida

Lockette specializes in public relations strategy, crisis communications, and marketing, with a secondary focus on gender studies and communication theory. Her expertise has been pivotal in managing high-profile events such as the EF-3 tornado response in 2018 and the university’s communications during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scientific Awards:

• Seven CASE awards in 2019 for excellence in university marketing and communications
• APR accreditation from PRSA in 2014

She also holds a Certificate in Integrated Communication from PRSA and has contributed to organizations like Friends of the Alabama Governor’s Mansion and the Central Alabama Hospitality Association.
