Bryony Cooper serves as Lecturer and Clinical Link Tutor in Occupational Therapy at the University of Sunderland's Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing. She transitioned to academia in 2023 after building extensive clinical experience across NHS and social care settings.
Originally trained at Sheffield Hallam University, Cooper began her career at Sunderland Royal Hospital and has remained in the region ever since. Her clinical expertise spans rheumatology, orthopedics, and predominantly social care - where she progressed to Team Manager before entering higher education. She specializes in supporting individuals with challenges in daily activities through specialist equipment, environmental adaptations, and technology-enabled care solutions.
Her research focuses on practical applications of occupational therapy in social care contexts, particularly technology integration and adaptive solutions. Cooper is based at City Campus and maintains active clinical connections while developing future occupational therapy professionals.
