Dr. Bryan Kauma is an Assistant Professor of History at Southwestern University, specializing in food history, environmental history, and African colonial studies. Originally from Zimbabwe, he holds a PhD from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and teaches courses on Food in World History and Themes in African History. His research focuses on small grain production, colonial food policies, and socio-political dimensions of food systems in Zimbabwe.
Dr. Kauma emphasizes family values, as reflected in his personal background and classroom interactions. He has received the Southern African Historical Society’s Student Essay Prize (2019) for his work on African peasant agriculture.
