Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic DiversityAbout
Bruno Riccio is a Full Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the University of Bologna, where he teaches Anthropology of Migration and related courses at the Department of Educational Sciences "Giovanni Maria Bertin". He has been a Full Professor since September 2018, following his appointment as Associate Professor from 2013 to 2018.
His educational background includes a BA in Political Science from the University of Bologna and a Master's and PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex, where he was a Marie Curie fellow. Riccio has conducted extensive ethnographic research in Senegal, Cambodia, and Italy, focusing on migration processes and their social implications.
Riccio's research spans cultural anthropology, social anthropology, and the anthropology of migration, with particular emphasis on transnational formations, co-development, tourism, citizenship, associations, discrimination, mobility, multicultural societies, racism, and reception and integration policies. His work often examines the intersection of migration with social inclusion and diversity in contemporary societies, as evidenced in his interview discussing diversity as a sociological concept rather than an analytical term.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on migration dynamics in Italy, including works on conviviality with migrants, anthropological perspectives on migration, and the reception and inclusion of asylum seekers and refugees. These publications reflect his applied anthropological approach to understanding migration phenomena.
