Bruno Cabanes is the Donald G. & Mary A. Dunn Chair in Modern Military History at Ohio State University. A graduate of École Normale Supérieure and Sorbonne, he specializes in the social and cultural history of war, particularly transitions from war to peace and veterans' experiences.
His award-winning books include La Victoire endeuillée (Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques prize), The Great War and the Origins of Humanitarianism (Paul Birdsall Prize), and August 1914 (Choice Award). He has published extensively on war memory, refugees, and humanitarianism.
He serves on advisory boards for the Historial de la Grande Guerre and Verdun Museum and has consulted for documentary films about WWI. His current research examines spaces of war and environmental impacts of conflict.
