International Iberian Nanotechnology LaboratoryAbout
Bruna Alves serves as a Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) within the Water Quality Research Group under Dr. Laura Rodriguez-Lorenzo's supervision. She contributes to the FRONTSH1P Horizon Europe project (101082082), which demonstrates circular economy solutions across five European regions including Poland's Łódzkie region and Portugal's Norte region.
Her educational background includes:
- Master's in Chemical Engineering (Biosystems specialization) from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2022)
- Thesis research conducted jointly with BOKU University, Vienna on lignin modification and bioaerogel production
Bruna's research integrates nanotechnology with environmental engineering through the development of portable Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) systems for real-time dissolved CO2 monitoring in microalgae-based wastewater treatment. Her work directly supports FRONTSH1P's Circular Systemic Solution 2 for Water & Nutrients, creating closed-loop systems that capture carbon while recovering nutrients from waste streams. This interdisciplinary approach bridges chemical engineering, nanotechnology, and circular economy principles to advance sustainable water management solutions with high replication potential across European regions.
As part of INL's research team within the FRONTSH1P consortium (34 partners from 9 countries), Bruna contributes to the project's mission of decarbonization and territorial regeneration through innovative wastewater treatment technologies that transform linear waste processes into circular resource recovery systems.
