Bruce Western is an Adjunct Professor of Sociology at Columbia University and Director of the Justice Lab. He studies poverty and socioeconomic inequality with a focus on the U.S. criminal justice system. His research examines the relationship between political institutions and social inequality, with longstanding interests in criminal justice policy, incarceration effects on poor communities, and quantitative methodology.
