Bruce Tychinski is a Professor of Trombone at the University of Delaware's School of Music within the College of Arts & Sciences. He teaches applied lessons, directs the trombone choir and UD Slides jazz ensemble, and organizes annual Trombone Day events. His roles include principal trombonist of the Johnstown Symphony, second trombonist of the Lancaster Symphony, and co-founder of the First State Middle School Trombone Choir.
Dr. Tychinski holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from Penn State University and a D.M.A. from the University of Kansas. Prior to UD, he taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, St. Norbert College, and the University of Northern Iowa. He is a S.E. Shires artist and has performed with renowned artists like Rosemary Clooney and the Four Tops.
His career highlights include premiering Jack Stamp's Divertimento for Trombone and Band (2013) and releasing the solo album Interplay: New Music for Trombone and Band (2017). He has presented at major conferences such as the International Trombone Festival and American Trombone Workshop.
Awarded the 2016 Delaware Division of the Arts fellowship, his work emphasizes music education, performance innovation, and ensemble development. He actively contributes to music pedagogy through his teaching and ensemble leadership.
