Brooke Okazaki is an Assistant Professor of Music at Carleton College, where she has been teaching since 2019. She earned her MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

Her research spans musicology, film studies, gender studies, and Japanese cultural analysis, with a focus on intersections of music, cinema, and sociocultural themes. She is particularly known for her work on Japanese environmental commentary in kaijū cinema and gender dynamics in rock music.
Recent Activity:
- Recipient of a Japan Foundation Long-Term Fellowship (2019–2020) to complete her monograph Searching for Wagner in Japan.
- Author of Shonen Knife’s Happy Hour: Food, Gender, Rock and Roll and co-author of Japan’s Green Monsters: Environmental Commentary in Kaijū Cinema.
