Bronwen Low is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) at McGill University's Faculty of Education. Her work focuses on innovative educational approaches for marginalized youth, particularly through arts integration and community-based initiatives. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from York University (2001), an M.A. in English from the University of British Columbia (1994), and a B.A. in English from Queen’s University (1992).
Her research explores youth cultures, participatory media practices, and culturally sustaining pedagogies. Notable projects include Projet 4/Studio 4 MTL, which uses music studios to engage youth, and investigations into #BookTok’s impact on reading habits. She also examines hip-hop’s role in educational change through collaborations with artists and schools.
Low received the 2015 McGill Equity and Community Building Award for her commitment to inclusive education. She serves as an Associate Member of the Institute for Human Development and Well-Being and sits on boards for Avenues and Projet 4/Studio 4 MTL. Her publications include Slam School (2011), recognized as an Outstanding Academic Title, and co-edited volumes on digital literacy and youth well-being.
