Bronte Alexander

Dr. Bronte Alexander (she/her) is a political geographer and Research Fellow at Collegium Helveticum, specializing in mobility governance within humanitarian contexts. Her work examines how everyday im/mobilities interact with aid systems and the human security implications of militarization in emergency responses. She is also affiliated with Griffith University, Australia, where she previously held appointments as a Research Fellow in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.

• Education: PhD in Political Geography from Griffith University (2022).

Her research explores the intersections of identity, spatial and temporal infrastructures, and humanitarian intervention, particularly focusing on LGBTIQ+ migrants in Australia and comparative immigration patterns in regional cities across Canada and New Zealand. She investigates the normalization of militarism in aid systems, including through water infrastructure at the Brazil-Venezuela border, and develops frameworks for understanding emergency (im)mobilities.

Bronte’s recent publication Governing Migration and Mobility (Bristol University Press, 2025) builds on her doctoral work. Her articles span journals like Political Geography, Migration and Society, and Mobilities, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to military-humanitarian temporalities and spatial governance.

Scientific awards and memberships:

• Chancellor's Medal for outstanding excellence in the Doctor of Philosophy (2022).
• Co-Convenor of the Political Geography Study Group, Institute of Australian Geographers (2025–present).
• Membership Secretary and Communications Officer, Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia (2020–2024).

She actively collaborates with community partners and serves as an academic advisor within Griffith University’s Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (2018–2025).
