Her research employs longitudinal and epidemiological methods to understand complex family and environmental influences on health behaviors and outcomes.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Introduction to Social Research, Evaluating Programs and Practice in Social Work, Health/Mental Health Policy, and Children and Families in the Social Environment.
Dr. Schuler is actively involved in developing community-based interventions aimed at promoting optimal health behaviors and buffering systemic stressors in low-income neighborhoods. Her goal is to prevent chronic health conditions that impair quality of life and lead to premature death in vulnerable populations.
