Brittany Chambers

Dr. Brittany Chambers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development & Family Studies at the University of California, Davis. As a community health scientist, she focuses on advancing sexual and reproductive health equity for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities through research that examines structural racism's impact on health outcomes.

Research Focus: Dr. Chambers employs a cell-to-society framework to investigate racism's biological impacts, particularly on preterm birth disparities. Her three-pronged research approach includes: 1) Understanding racism's physiological pathways through biomarker analysis, 2) Developing community-centered frameworks for measuring structural racism, and 3) Creating evidence-based interventions like racial equity training for healthcare providers. Her work is distinguished by its reproductive justice lens and community-based participatory methods.

Collaborations & Teams: Dr. Chambers leads multidisciplinary teams including the SOLARS study (with UC Berkeley's Dr. Anu Gómez) examining stress and preterm birth in Black/Latina women. She maintains research partnerships with UCSF's Preterm Birth Initiative and community organizations in Oakland/Fresno through her #listentoblackwomen initiative.
