Brigid Harrison is a Professor and Chair of Political Science and Law at Montclair State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has been a faculty member since 1994 and founded the Policy Studies program, a multi-disciplinary initiative. Her teaching focuses on American politics, public policy, and political theory. She earned her BA from Stockton University, MA from Rutgers University, and PhD from Temple University.
Her research interests span Congress and the presidency, electoral politics, and generational political behavior, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z. She is a leading author of introductory political science textbooks, including American Democracy Now (7th ed.) and Power and Society (13th ed.).
Harrison is a frequent media commentator on U.S. politics, appearing on ABC, NBC, CBS, and NPR. She has moderated major political debates and contributes to outlets like The New York Observer and PolitickerNJ. Her academic leadership roles include serving as president of the New Jersey Political Science Association and the National Women’s Caucus for Political Science.
She has received recognition such as induction into the Atlantic County Women’s Hall of Fame (2009) and the Zonta ‘Women Who Make a Difference’ award. Her community involvement includes roles on the boards of Stockton University Foundation, Holy Spirit High School, and the John R. Elliott Character & Leadership Program.
