Brigid Gillespie is Professor of Patient Safety in Nursing at Griffith University School of Nursing and Midwifery and Gold Coast University Hospital, with extensive expertise in operating room nursing and patient safety research. An inductee of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame (2020), she leads research on surgical safety, pressure injury prevention, and clinical guidelines implementation.
Her work focuses on reducing surgical site infections through negative pressure wound therapy, improving non-technical skills in operating teams, and developing pressure injury prevention protocols. She directs the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Wiser Wound Care.
Recent publications examine ICU safety strategies, patient participation in wound care, and medical device-related injuries. She has received multiple awards including the Excellence in Perioperative Nursing Award (2014-2016).
