Bright Gyamfi

Bright Gyamfi is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on West African and African Diaspora intellectual history, Pan-Africanism, Black internationalism, and economic development. He examines how African intellectuals transformed academic discourse on Africa and its diaspora during decolonization eras.

• Education: BA (Honors) in History & Political Science from University of Notre Dame, MSc in African Studies from Oxford University, PhD in History from Northwestern University

Research explores Ghanaian intellectuals' post-1966 Nkrumahism trajectories, institutionalization of Black Studies, and decolonization of academic knowledge production. His work bridges historical scholarship with public engagement, including advising on cultural policy and Pan-African development.

Key publications include analyses of Anani Dzidzienyo's contributions to Black studies and the transatlantic influence of Ghanaian intellectual activists. He has been awarded fellowships from the Social Science Research Council and Fulbright-IIE.

Teaching emphasizes linking historical analysis to contemporary social justice movements. Previously served as Presidential Fellow at Northwestern University.
