Brian Jarvis

Dr. Brian Jarvis is a Senior Lecturer in American Literature and Film at Loughborough University, where he has served since 1991. He has held administrative roles including Director of Doctoral Programmes (2016–2020) and Associate Dean for Teaching (2011–2014). His research focuses on American literature and film, particularly cultural currents from 1870–1930 and modernist geographies. Jarvis has published works like Cruel and Unusual Punishment and U.S. Culture, analyzing societal punishment through literary and cinematic lenses.

Education: PhD (1996), MA (1989), and BA (1987) from Keele University and the University of East Anglia. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has served as an external examiner for multiple UK universities.
