About
Brian Hosterman is an Associate Professor of Physics in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Colorado Mesa University. His research focuses on experimental materials science using vibrational spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction to study energy-related materials like spinels, perovskites, and nanomaterials for nuclear and renewable energy applications. He holds a PhD and MS in Physics from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a BS from Denison University. Before joining CMU, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the New College of Florida.
Hosterman’s expertise includes Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and material synthesis. He actively engages CMU physics students in his research projects to develop their laboratory skills for graduate studies or careers. His work bridges fundamental materials characterization with practical applications in energy storage and nuclear technology, emphasizing the synthesis of novel materials and their structural analysis under varying conditions.
