About
Dr. Brian Forde is an Affiliate Senior Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (UQ) Centre for Clinical Research (CCR) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Molecular Biosciences. He holds a PhD from University College Cork (2013) and specializes in microbial bioinformatics and clinical microbial genomics. His research focuses on antibiotic resistance evolution, genomic epidemiology, and translating genomic data into clinical practice. He leads projects on genomic surveillance of hospital-acquired infections and applies AI to infectious disease dynamics. Dr. Forde has contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including work on longitudinal genomic analysis of bacterial lineages and outbreak resolution via tools like CATHAI and HAIviz. He is actively involved in supervising PhD students and has secured grants such as the Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship.
Education: Bachelor of Science (Honours) from University College Cork; PhD in Microbial Genomics from University College Cork.
Research Interests: Clinical microbial genomics, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, genomic surveillance, and AI-driven pathogen analysis. Key projects include genomic epidemiology of ESBL-producing E. coli, Burkholderia pseudomallei, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Dr. Forde’s work bridges lab and clinical settings, aiming to improve infection control and treatment strategies.
Grants and Awards: Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship (2020). His team has developed tools like CATHAI (outbreak detection) and HAIviz (genomic epidemiology dashboard), enhancing healthcare-associated infection management. Active in supervising multidisciplinary PhD candidates focusing on AMR, tuberculosis, and sepsis diagnostics.
