Brian Charest serves as Interim Dean and Associate Professor in the School of Education at University of Redlands, where he also co-directs the Center for Educational Justice. His educational background includes a Ph.D in English Education from University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.A. in Special Education from Roosevelt University, an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. in English from University of California, Santa Cruz.
His research focuses on transformative educational practices that challenge traditional systems:

- Prison education programs
- Teacher preparation for social justice
- Critical race theory applications
Professor Charest leads innovative programs including the Cuba Study Away course and Inside-Out Prison Exchange program. His scholarly contributions have earned multiple awards including the 2021 Outstanding Book Award (Honorable Mention) for Civic Literacy in Schools and Communities.
