Brian C. Dean

Brian C. Dean is a Professor and C. Tycho Howle Director in the School of Computing at Clemson University. He holds degrees in computer science from MIT and has expertise in algorithmic computer science, biomedical data science, and computer science education, with a focus on high-school level programming and competitions.

Education:

• Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science, MIT

Research & Roles: Leads the Applied Algorithms Group and previously received an NSF CAREER award. Directs the USACO, which trains high-school students for international programming competitions via online materials and summer camps. He also developed the LectureScribe tool for creating animated whiteboard lectures.

Teaching: Teaches graduate courses in algorithms and organizes programming contest-focused courses. Advises students who perform well in his classes.
