About
Brian Billups is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Education at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, where he leads the Synaptic Mechanisms Laboratory. His research focuses on understanding synaptic function and modulation in the central nervous system using electrophysiological techniques and fluorescent cellular imaging.
Research interests include:
- Glial modulation of neuronal activity
- Glutamate recycling at synapses
- Regulation of amino acids in the brain
- Synaptic transmission mechanisms
His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on astrocyte-neuron interactions, neurotransmitter regulation, and synaptic physiology, with recent work exploring molecular mechanisms of glutamate transport and sodium signaling.
