Brian Bergman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from Indiana University, a Master in International Development (MID) from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.A. in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs from Miami University.
His research focuses on understanding how entrepreneurs and communities address systemic challenges like poverty and climate change through innovative organizational frameworks. Key areas include entrepreneurial ecosystems, social entrepreneurship, and hybrid organizations. His work is published in top journals such as the Academy of Management Journal and Journal of Business Venturing.
Prior to academia, Bergman contributed to international development projects, including U.N.-affiliated public health initiatives in Switzerland and community-driven social ventures in Kenya, Guatemala, and Ecuador. His research often bridges academic rigor with real-world applications in emerging markets and social impact measurement.
