Brett St Louis

Brett St Louis is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology. He is affiliated with the Centre on the Dynamics of Ethnicity and serves on the editorial board of New Formations. Prior roles include positions at Goldsmiths, University of London, UC San Diego, and the University of Bristol. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (1999), focusing on C.L.R. James' social theory.

His research explores race, ethnicity, and racism through theoretical frameworks like racial eliminativism. Current projects include a book on The Postracial Ambition, analyzing racial eliminativism's historical trajectory and critiques of race as an analytical category. He critiques the BAME administrative category and theorizes race as a technology, not an empirical object.

His work intersects with UN SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Recent publications address racial legacies, carceral systems, and post-millennial whiteness. His writings challenge methodological and ontological assumptions about race in sociological practice.
